Former Fugees singer and solo artist Lauryn Hill is in line to hit the European tour circuit this summer after years of on-again, off-again hiatus. Most dates on Hill’s 2009 itinerary remain under wraps, but she is a confirmed performer at two jazz festivals in July.

The first date on Hill’s calendar is a July 11 performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival at Stravinski Auditorium in Montreux, Switzerland. However, the long-dormant recording artist has also snagged a headline spot at this year’s Stockholm Jazz Festival on July 18 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Gunnar Lagerman, spokesman for the Stockholm event, said in a statement that the hip-hop musician’s performance is part of a 10-stop European tour. The 26th annual Stockholm Jazz Festival, one of Sweden’s biggest music events, is scheduled for July 15-19 and has an expected audience of 30,000.

As a solo artist, Hill earned acclaim and five Grammy Awards for her 1998 debut “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.” But since that release, Hill has dropped off the mainstream music radar, releasing only one other project, the live album “MTV Unplugged No. 2.0,” in 2002.

Hill, who made her film debut in 1993’s “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit,” pursued several film projects over the years, all of which fell through in various stages of production. She has instead put family first and is the mother of five children with Rohan Marley, son of reggae icon Bob Marley.

Hill has continued to perform live, though her stage presence often receives mixed reviews. She had become known for her increasingly eccentric behavior and appearance, starting concerts hours late, and delivering weak performances. In a review of a 2007 concert, the San Francisco Chronicle wrote, “A raspy tone, cracked notes, clipped phrases and melismas that meandered painfully off pitch demonstrated just how badly Hill’s once-commanding pipes have deteriorated.”
