After taking 10 years off the road and spending months hyping its triumphant return, Lilith Fair has finally revealed the first block of dates and ticket onsales for the summer 2010 season. According to initial announcements, the touring festival will hit a total of 36 North American markets this summer.

As it stands now the routing begins with a July 2 event at the Clark County Amphitheatre in Portland, OR, and concludes August 10 at Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, FL. Other concerts on the calendar include July 3 at Gorge Amphitheatre in Quincy, WA; July 24 at Molson Canadian Amphitheatre in Toronto, ON; and August 8 at Aaron’s Amphitheatre at Lakewood in Atlanta, GA.

A couple of booked acts — rock veterans Heart and solo artist Missy Higgins — have revealed dates and cities (but not venues) for their scheduled Lilith Fair performances. Heart will be playing July 15 (Kansas City, MO), July 17 (Chicago, IL), and July 18 (Minneapolis, MN). Solo artist Missy Higgins is on tap for July 28 (Philadelphia, PA), July 30 (Boston, MA), July 31 (New York, NY), August 1 (Hartford, CT) and August 3 (Washington, DC).

Public onsales start on March 27 for the eight fully confirmed dates on the 2010 tour, except a July 27 event at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, OH, where general onsales begin April 3.

But fans of festival founder Sarah McLachlan will have first access to Lilith Fair tickets when they preorder the singer-songwriter’s new album, “The Laws of Illusion.” Along with each preorder, customers will receive an exclusive access code for a 48-hour ticket presale beginning on March 22.

Since not all tour dates have been fully unveiled, unused ticket codes will be viable for future Lilith presales, as well. “On March 26th, all pin codes will be held until the exclusive pre-order begins for the next batch of Lilith Fair tour dates,” according to a message on McLachlan’s official Web site.

During its original run, Lilith Fair was on the road for only three summers — 1997 through 1999 — before folding. But during that brief period of time, the touring festival ” was one of the highest grossing touring festivals in the world, with over 1.5 million fans in attendance and raising over $10 million dollars for national and local charities,” according to the Lilith Fair Web site.

The revived Lilith Fair will uphold the tradition of presenting acts led by or solely consisting of women. Other than McLachlan, who will appear on all dates, an eclectic array of performers is slated to appear throughout the summer. Acts include Emmylou Harris, Erykah Badu, Kelly Clarkson, Martina McBride, Mary J. Blige, Norah Jones, Sheryl Crow and Sugarland.
