Neo-soul crooner Maxwell has carved a comfortable niche for himself in the music industry since reemerging in 2009 with the chart-topping “BLACKsummers’night.” After a couple high-demand tour legs to support that effort last year, the performer is getting ready to return to the road with a newly expanded U.S. itinerary.
His summer concert schedule, which begins May 21 at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, OH, now extends through mid-summer and a scheduled July 15 gig at 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, MD, with nearly a dozen new concert dates.
The eight-week trek will visit 31 markets, including extended plays on June 11-12 at Philips Arena in Atlanta, GA, and June 25-26 at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY. Some of the more recent additions to Maxwell’s summer calendar include a July 1 concert at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, SC, and a July 10 event at Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, PA.
But the tour’s recent expansion lies beyond just the dates and cities it will play. Along with Jill Scott, slated to support on most dates through the tour’s first Madison Square Garden show on June 25, a couple new guests have also been added to the billing.
Erykah Badu is on the books to support Maxwell’s June 11 show in Atlanta, as well as his June 26 performance in New York City, replacing Scott on both dates. Canadian artist Melanie Fiona will also appear on select concert dates.
Tickets are already available for Maxwell’s previously announced summer tour dates. Public onsales will begin May 14 for some of the newer shows on his schedule, with most prices in the $40 to $100 range, according to current Ticketmaster.com listings.
A portion of each ticket sale will benefit several Haiti relief organizations, as well as Scott’s own Blues Babe Foundation. Details about the tour dates, their corresponding onsales and the organizations being supported can be found on Maxwell’s official Web site.
