With the first leg of their 2009 North American tour just recently underway, the rockers in Nickelback are already making big plans for the second leg of the tour. After completing the current tour and a brief UK run, the band will return to perform at amphitheaters across the nation.

The 30-city tour leg picks up July 10 at Darien Lake Performing Arts Center in Darien Center, NY, and wraps September 9 at Journal Pavilion in Albuquerque, NM. Stops include a July 24 concert at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, MA, an August 19 performance at Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati, Oh, and an August 31 event at Sleep Train Amphitheatre in Wheatland, CA.

The summer tour will feature Hinder, Papa Roach and Saving Abel as supporting acts. Fan club presales kick off March 9, followed by public on-sales on March 13. Live Nation, which holds a 360-degree touring and recording deal with Nickelback, is producing the tour.

Nickelback is touring behind the November 18 release “Dark Horse,” which hit No. 2 on the Billboard 200 despite being widely panned by critics. The disc is a follow-up to 2005’s “All the Right Reasons,” an album that’s seven-time multi-platinum standing categorizes the hard rock crew as anything but a dark horse.

“Any artist that is even surviving right now is a dark horse because things change pretty fast,” explained bassist Mike Kroeger, brother of frontman Chad Kroeger, in a statement. “You’re a superstar one day and wake up the next day and you’re anonymous. To be successful in any way is beating the odds right now, I think.”

Nickelback’s spring 2009 tour began February 25 at Sommet Center in Nashville, TN, and closes out April 23 at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, SC. The band’s next show is tonight, March 6, at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, NJ.
