StubHub has bought local event-discovery and promotion platform Zvents, an acquisition that will dramatically increase the number of events StubHub users can discover.

Zvents.com lists more than 3 million local events annually, which are provided by more than 140,000 marketers and promoters across the United States. By contrast, the eBay-owned StubHub currently lists about 30,000 events annually.

“Essentially, with this new acquisition (and after integration), StubHub users will eventually have access to 100-times more events than the present,” eBay spokesperson Richard Brewer-Hay wrote on the company’s blog.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

StubHub is the nation’s leading ticket resale marketplace, and teaming with Zvents will further solidify that status. Zvents has a network of more than 300 media partner sites that receive more than 14 million unique visitors per month combined.

Many of Zvents partners are newspaper Web sites, which provide thousands of local events in markets that StubHub does not always reach. The move will give StubHub the chance to include ticket listings for hundreds of thousands of new live events beyond its traditional sports, concert and theater offerings.

“We are dedicated to enabling our users to find fun and interesting things to do in their lives by providing the best events and entertainment information across our products and network,” Zvents said in a statement. “StubHub shares our passion and we will work together to drive a new vision for live entertainment.”
