Bette Midler is an American actress, comedienne and singer, who got her start in various Off-Off-Broadway and Broadway productions in the 1960s. She went on to have a successful recording and acting career through the ’70s and ’80s, which declined in the following years though she continued to make film and television appearances, and perform on stage for a dedicated fan base.

Midler, sometimes referred to as the Divine Miss M, got a career jumpstart when Celine Dion completed her popular residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The venue approached Midler to produce a multi-year residency of her own, and eventually booked her 2008 through 2010 for a total of 300 shows. Named “The Showgirl Must Go On,” the show combines Midler’s acting and singing abilities with her over-the-top mannerisms and glitzy fashion sense. The show trades off with other residential performers, such as Cher, but figures high in TicketNews’s exclusive Las Vegas rankings when it’s on-stage.
