After the 162 games that each Major League Baseball team plays, only eight are left standing and advance into the MLB Playoffs. In both the American and National League, the three division winners and one Wild Card qualify for the post-season. The first round, or the Divisional Series, is a best of five series, in which the winners advance to their respective League Championship Series. The winner of the best of seven ALCS and NLCS determine the match-up in the World Series.
The MLB Playoffs provide one of the best months of ticket sales on the secondary market. The level of that success is often determined on the match-ups and cities involved in each round. Sale volume and price are substantially increased if teams like the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs are involved. Story-lines also play a role, as rivalries like Red Sox-Yankees provide a huge boast in sales.
