Veteran rock crew Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will reclaim the road this summer with an extensive set of tour plans that spans four months.

Current plans route Petty’s tour busses through 36 markets across the United States and Canada. The lengthy venture begins with a May 6 show at Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion in Raleigh, NC, and concludes August 27 at Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, NY.

The rockers’ U.S. itinerary includes stops on May 22 at Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, CA; June 11-12 at the Gorge Amphitheatre in Quincy, WA; July 17 at United Center in Chicago, IL; July 28 at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY; and August 19 and 21 at Comcast Center in Mansfield, MA.

Fans north of the border can anticipate at least five dates with Petty and his famous backing band, including engagements on June 8 at General Motors Place in Vancouver, BC, and August 25 at Air Canada Centre in Toronto, ON.

On June 25, Petty and the Heartbreakers will headline the day’s Summerfest festivities in Milwaukee, WI. Those will be the first tickets available to the general public, with onsales kicking off March 6.

Meanwhile, paid members of the Highway Companions Club will have the first shot at all regular concert tickets during a presale that starts March 3. The tour’s remaining public onsales will follow on March 8.

A motley group of artists will step in as special guests on various legs of the tour, including Joe Cocker (May 6-June 19); Drive-by Truckers (June 22-23, July 10-24); ZZ Top (June 25); Crosby, Stills and Nash (August 11-17, 25-27); and My Morning Jacket (August 19-24).

Petty and the Heartbreakers are touring in support of the group’s first studio record since 2002, “Mojo,” which is due in record stores this spring.

Online ticket buyers will have the first chance to hear two new tracks from the album via an exclusive e-mail download code with their purchase. Then when the record is officially released, ticket holders will receive a full-album download, as well as an additional download of live tracks from the tour at the end of the summer venture.

The upcoming jaunt follows their sold-out 2008 tour. High demand for tickets helped Petty debut at No. 5 on TicketNews’ exclusive event rankings in February 2008, following the band’s blow-out performance at Super Bowl XLII by just a few days.
