For the third week running, the New Yankee Stadium beat all rivals in TicketNews’ exclusive venues rankings for the week ending Sunday, July 4.

Ticket sales for its legendary New York Yankees helped the venue to retain its top spot, while leading the team to the top of TicketNews’ Top Sports Events rankings for the third straight week. In music, the stadium will have Jay Z and Eminem for two shows in September. The new Yankee Stadium dominated the venues rankings this week with a 4.75 power score.

Moving up this week to number two and power scoring a respectable 2.97 was Madison Square Garden (MSG) in New York, NY. Tonight begins a three show run by the wildly popular Lady Gaga, who once again took number one in this week’s Top Concerts rankings. Justin Bieber (at number two in Top Concerts) arrives for a date at the end of August, and Roger Waters (at number nine) plays two dates in early October.

New York City took the top three venues in the rankings as Gershwin Theatre moved up two to the number three position this week. Power scoring a 2.62, the Gershwin continues to enjoy robust ticket sales for its blockbuster musical, Wicked, keeping the venue in the top five week after week.

Number four Fenway Park in Boston, MA, also bumped up two this week on strong sales for hometown favorites the Boston Red Sox. Brisk sales for Bosox tickets took the team to number two in Top Sports for the second week in a row. Fenway Park finished the week with a power score of 2.20.

The Nikon at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York showed stamina in the top ten this week, up to number five from last week’s number three. Power scoring a 1.81, the outdoor concert venue’s summer schedule includes dates from Rush (at number four in this week’s Top Concerts rankings) and Sting (number ten) in July. Kiss in August and the Jonas Brothers with Demi Lovato (who recently cut nearly 20 dates from their North American tour) take the stage in August.

Next, Heinz Field, home to Pittsburgh Steelers football, made its debut in the top ten at number six. Boosting the venue’s numbers this week were solid ticket sales for the Pittsburgh Penguins’ Winter Classic, (taking the game to number five in Top Sports) to be played on New Year’s Day against the Washington Capitals. Heinz Field finished the week with a power score of 1.73.

Coors Field in Denver, CO debuted in the top ten at number seven this week. Home team the Colorado Rockies helped boost the stadium into the top ten with ticket sales this week taking them to number three in Top Sports. Coors Field power scored a 1.61 this week.

At number eight this week, Sarofim Hall at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts in Houston TX, presents companies of various touring Broadway productions, including “Wicked” through July 25, Shrek in October and Burn the Floor in December. Sarofim Hall power scored a 1.57 this week.

Down seven spots to number nine this week was Comerica Park. The home to Detroit Tigers baseball will also see two shows from Jay Z and Eminem in early September. Comerica Park power scored a 1.42 this week.

Down just one from last week, Target Field in Minneapolis MN finished at number nine with a power score of 1.42. The MLB’s Minnesota Twins keep their new home field in the top ten week after week with continued strong ticket sales which this week brought the team to number four in Top Sports.

As the summer sports and concert seasons heat up, baseball stadiums and outdoor concert venues dominate the top ten this week. The Gershwin is joined by Sarofim Hall in Houston for a total of two theater venues in the top ten this week.

TicketNews Exclusive Rankings and Power Scores are based on ticket sales for venues from the TicketNetwork Exchange™, the world’s largest secondary market exchange. A Power Score illustrates a given venue’s category-specific significance. Two factors are used to calculate a power score: total ticket sales for a venue, and total ticket sales within the category. As such, power scores should only be used to compare venues within a particular category.
