Rehearsals for the new musical will start next week and preview performances begin on Tuesday, November 27, 2012. “Viva Forever!” will officially open on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at the Piccadilly Theatre in London’s West End.

The book of “Viva Forever!” was written by Jennifer Saunders, and features the hit songs by the Spice Girls, including “Say You’ll Be There,” “Spice Up Your Life,” and “Who Do You Think You Are.” The Spice Girls are not in the production and the play is not about their story, but they did help to inspire the story.

“Viva Forever!” is produced by Judy Craymer along with the Spice Girls, Simon Fuller and Universal Music. Judy Craymer is known for producing another jukebox musical “Mamma Mia!,” which became a mega-hit. Jukebox musicals use hit songs for their score, making a musical fresh and hip. “Mamma Mia!” has helped create a jukebox musical trend and “Viva Forever!” may follow in its footsteps.

On the cast announcement, Judy Craymer said:

“We’re very excited to be working with such a fabulous group of actors — not only does The Cast include some of the most accomplished performers in British musical theatre, but we’ve discovered some wonderful newcomers as well. The story is not about the Spice Girls but rather a contemporary comedy musical with a funny and clever script by Jennifer, which is charged with all the energy and attitude of the girls themselves,” as noted on BroadwayWorld.com.

The other cast members consist of: Lucy Montgomery, who plays Lauren’s best friend Suzi. Montgomery is famous for her TV roles in Absolutely Fabulous, The Mighty Boosh, and Armstrong and Miller among others. Simon Slater a RSC veteran plays another one of Lauren’s friends, Mitch.
