Garth Brooks doesn’t want fans to have their cell phones at his upcoming Garth Brooks/Plus One residency dates in Las Vegas – despite the fact that they can’t get into the show using anything else. The country star announced plans to make his shows a “phone free experience” at The Colosseum, with the Ticketmaster website threatening that “Anyone caught using a cellphone during the performance will be removed from the venue.”

Those who attend the Brooks shows will be required to us their mobile devices for entry to the show, which is being ticketed using the “safetix” system that locks tickets to a users Ticketmaster account and requires they be accessed via their mobile device. Once that has been accomplished, they will be required to have their phones locked into a Yondr pouch for the duration of the event. Anyone who needs to use their phone during the performance will need to exit to a special area of the venue where their phone can be unlocked.

In exchange for surrendering their mobile devices, visitors will receive a “special free gift” of a QR code that allows them access to professional photographs from that night’s performance.

The opening night for Garth Brooks Plus One at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace is just over one week away, kicking off on May 18. The shows run through May, June and July before a long break and resume in late November through the end of 2023. There are plans for an extended run of new shows in 2024, but those have not yet been announced.

“Having Garth Brooks, one of the greatest of all time, bring his tremendous talent and an entirely new show to The Colosseum only adds to the remarkable legacy of Caesars Palace,” said Anthony Carano, President and Chief Operating Officer for Caesars Entertainment. “We are confident that Garth Brooks/Plus ONE will be an unforgettable live entertainment experience for our guests, and we are honored that he’s chosen to join the Caesars Entertainment family.”

Tickets for Garth Brooks shows in Las Vegas went on sale in late 2022 and were subject to the full force of Live Nation/Ticketmaster “dynamic” ticket price surging systems, despite Brooks’ having criticized their use by other artists in the past.

“The thing I hate about [dynamic pricing] the hardest it’s on is the fan, the one who allows you to live your dream,” he told the Star Telegram when asked about Bruce Springsteen’s controversial use of the dynamic pricing systems to surge prices for his 2023 tour dates to absurd levels when they went on sale last year. His exception, naturally, was for events like his residency in Las Vegas, which was most likely already in planning stages when he gave that interview.

“But if you go play Vegas, you do a residency, you’re going to do dynamic pricing. It’s going to be tough, so residencies are hard, but they always are because of the limited amount of seating anyway,” he said.

Since that time, Brooks has continued to advocate on behalf of entertainment giant Live Nation and its Ticketmaster subsidiary, defending their business practices in the wake of January’s critical Senate Judiciary Committee hearing and joining industry titans Irving Azoff and James Dolan in mocking the legislators critical of the business on stage at a Pollstar conference soon after. He has gone as far as to argue in favor of making consumer ticket transfer and ticket resale against the law, in spite of the fact that consumers often find less expensive tickets for events like his residency on resale platforms.
