While hundreds of students make it to Broadway after their college career, one university has been crowned as the most-represented on the Main Stem.
According to Playbill, New York University is the most-represented college on Broadway for the 2022-2023 season with over 100 alumni in shows. These include ongoing hits like “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” “Wicked,” “The Book of Mormon,” and “Hamilton,” as well as newer shows or limited engagements including “Beetlejuice,” “Shucked,” “Bad Cinderella,” and “Girl From the North Country.”
As a part of the annual study dubbed “The Big 10,” Playbill looked at every actor who performed in a show on Broadway from May 5, 2022 through April 27, 2023, pulling college data from publicly available sources.
The second most-represented college on Broadway was University of Michigan, followed by the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, Carneige Mellon University, and Yale University. The music-focused Julliard School ranked No. 6, while Boston Conservatory at Berklee, University of Cincinatti College-Conservatory, Pace University, and Northwestern University rounded-out the list.
