The critically acclaimed, Tony Award-winning play “Stereophonic” is wrapping-up its run on the Great White Way in just a few days, but its journey is far from over. In the upcoming months, the production will make its way to London’s West End and embark on a nationwide tour across the U.S.

Currently, “Stereophonic” is playing at the John Golden Theatre until its final bow on January 12. During its time in New York, it made Broadway history with the most Tony nominations for a single play. It went on to win five Tony Awards, including Best Play, Best Director (Daniel Aukin), and awards for Will Brill as Best Featured Actor, scenic design by David Zinn, and sound design by Ryan Rumery.

“Stereophonic” centers around a rock band, taking the audience to a recording studio where the band members experience up-and-downs of a creative process. Set in the 1970s, the play follows the story of recording a new album, which may end up in “sparking their breakup – or their breakthrough.”

Written by David Adjmi and directed by Daniel Aukin, “Stereophonic” features music by Will Butler, formerly of Arcade Fire, who was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Score for his work on the original score of the 2013 film “Her.” The play includes a creative team consisting of costume designer Enver Chakartash, lighting designer Jiyoun Chang, sound designer Ryan Rumery, and music director Justin Craig.

Prior to its Broadway engagement, Adjmi’s play made a world premiere at Off-Broadway’s Playwrights Horizons in October 2023 and extended its run multiple times.

The current Broadway cast features Benjamin Anthony Anderson, Tony winner Will Brill, Andrew Butler, Amy Forsyth, Eli Gelb, Rebecca Naomi Jones, and Chris Stack. Brill, Butler, Gelb, and Stack have been with the production since its world premiere at Playwrights Horizons.

The West End engagement will begin at London’s Duke of York’s Theatre in May 2025, and a U.S. national tour is set to launch in Seattle in October.

Casting for the West End and touring productions will be announced at a later date.

Produced on Broadway by Sue Wagner, John Johnson, Seaview, Sonia Friedman Productions, Linden Productions, and Ashley Melone & Nick Mills, the West End production will be produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Sue Wagner, John Johnson, Seaview, Linden Productions and Ashley Melone & Nick Mills.
