Franz Ferdinand is a rock band from Glasgow, Scotland, composed of Alex Kapranos, Bob Hardy, Nick McCarthy and Paul Thomson. The group was formed in 2002 and was signed to Domino Records in 2003. They really started to break into stardom when their single “Take Me Out” reached #3 on the UK charts and #66 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S. In 2004, they released a self-titled album, which achieved platinum status in the U.S. and went quadruple platinum in the UK.

The group has released several singles and two studio albums since then, including their 2009 album “Tonight: Franz Ferdinand,” which reached #2 on the UK charts and #9 on the Billboard 200. The band has been nominated for several Grammy awards, and they most recently went on a U.S. tour in the spring of 2009 and joined up with Green Day for a short stint in August of the same year.
