Singer-songwriter Maxwell was born on May 23, 1973 in Brooklyn, New York. He’s an American R&B artist and played an important role in developing the sub-genre called neo-soul. He was nominated for a Grammy Award for his 1996 debut album “Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite,” which sold over two million copies earning it two times platinum status. He appeared on the 2008 BET Awards and performed the song “Simply Beautiful” in a tribute to Al Green.

During the fall of 2008, Maxwell returned to the road following a six-year hiatus, in support of his latest musical project, “BLACKsummers’night” which is the first installment to a trilogy of albums, the first of which was released starting July 7, 2009. The second installment, called “blackSUMMERS’night” is scheduled to be released in 2010 and the third, “blacksummers’NIGHT” in 2011. On his tour he has played “Pretty Wings”, “Help Somebody”, “Cold”, “Bad Habits” and “Never Do W/Out You” from the 2009 album.
