Chicago Cubs tickets, New York Yankees tickets, and Boston Red Sox tickets all made it into the top five on the Overall Top Events chart for the week of June 16 – June 22, 2008, according to TicketNews’s exclusive rankings.
Though Wicked tickets claimed the first place position with a power score of 5.41, the Cubs followed closely behind in second place with a 3.30 score. The Chicago Cubs, who have recently been accused of reselling their own tickets, also topped the Top Sports Events chart this week, coming in with a power score of 9.66. Despite this news, the Cubs have remained successful on the field, and currently stand with the best record in baseball at 48-28, of which thirty-two wins and only 8 losses were at home. Also contributing to the Cub’s popularity this week was their sweep of rival White Sox at Wrigley Field over the weekend.
The New York Yankees earned third place on the top events chart with a power score of 3.13, and placed second on the sports chart with a 9.16 score. Even though tickets for the Yankees are such a hot item, some cool deals can still be found online.
The Red Sox fell one position on the combined events chart this week to finish in fifth place with a score of 2.77, and earned a third place finish on the top sports chart with a power score of 7.67. Also hailing from Beantown, the NBA champion Boston Celtics claimed the fourth place position on the top events chart with a power score of 3.08 and claimed third place on the sports chart with a 9.02 power score.
Along with it’s top event status, the hit musical “Wicked” also claimed first place on the Top Theater Events and Top Broadway Events charts, with power scores of 36.63 and 28.88, respectively. Other top theater events included Jersey Boys, South Pacific, and Lion King, which earned 13.81, 12.56, and 8.07 power scores, in that order. On the Broadway chart, “South Pacific,” “Jersey Boys,” and “Lion King,” also rounded out the top four events, with scores of 22.46, 15.29, and 8.23.
Coldplay earned the distinction Top Concert Event this week with a power score of 5.24. The group, which recently rescheduled their summer tour, was up two positions from last week. Also up two positions this week were the Jonas Brothers, who earned a second place finish with a power score of 4.61. Rounding out the top of the chart was Madonna, who fell two positions to third place and earned a 4.50 power score. Also on the concert chart this week was Carrie Underwood in ninth place with a power score of 2.01. Tickets for Underwood’s summer tour went onsale this past weekend.
Lastly, the Top Las Vegas Events chart saw a little action this week, as the usual frontrunner Elton John fell two positions to fifth place this week with a power score of 2.78. Moving ahead of the man with the red piano were Cirque du Soleil – “O” in third place with a power score of 5.27 and Phantom the Las Vegas Spectacular in fourth with a power score of 3.62. Bette Midler remained the top Las Vegas event this week with a power score of 51.09, and Cher followed in second place with a power score of 20.91.
