Lil Nas X, who exploded onto the music scene with the smash “Old Town Road,” will perform the first in-game concert on the Roblox platform this weekend. The singer will also participate in an artist Q&A within the game, which reportedly has more than 150 million monthly users. The show will feature his first single in two years, Holiday, as a centerpiece.

“Hey everybody! It’s me, Lil Nas X,” reads a post on the Roblox website detailing the performance. “Join me for a one-of-a-kind, immersive concert experience built exclusively on Roblox. Get ready for a crazy show with some of my favorite songs, the debut performance of my new single, and more.”

The concert will be free to access for Roblox users, who can access the virtual concert venue by signing into their account on the system. It kicks off with a 4PM (Pacific) preshow Q&A session and scavenger hunt on Friday. The “main event” begins Saturday November 14 at 1PM, with a performance for audiences in Asia scheduled the same day at 10 PM. Europe gets its show the following day at 9 AM.

A number of artists have begun staging performances within the virtual world this year, taking the livestream concept to a next level by entering the platforms where millions of users already spend time in a virtual environment of sorts. Fortnite has been at the forefront, with Marshmello and Travis Scott already performing in that game’s ecosystem. Minecraft had an entire “Electric Blockaloo” festival earlier this year, while even World of Tanks got in on the action with The Offspring. Such concerts offer performers a chance to offer a uniquely tailored performance based on the virtual environment that the platform provides, and allows for additional engagement via in-game items.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Columbia Records to bring Lil Nas X fans and the Roblox community together in an entirely new way,” said Jon Vlassopulos, global head of music at Roblox. “This concert with Lil Nas X will transport players and their friends into the metaverse, and bring to life the future of what immersive, social experiences can look like.”
