Simone Biles — dubbed one of the greatest olympians in the country — made waves after returning to gymnastics after a two-year hiatus. Now, she’s debating the question on fans’ minds: will she return to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics?
Biles, at 27-years-old, is considered an older gymnast. She’s spoken publicly regarding the impact the sport has on her body, and she notably took off two years to focus on her mental health.
During a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Biles delved into the idea of competing at the 2028 Olympics.
“I’ve accomplished so much, there’s almost nothing left to do, rather than to just be snobby and to try again — and for what?” Biles said. “I’m at a point in my career where I’m humble enough to know when to be done.”
She noted that “if you go back, you’ll be greedy,” however, “that’s also your decision to decide.”
“What sacrifices would be made if I go back now?” Biles questioned. “When you’re younger, it’s like, prom, college. Now it’s like, starting a family, being away from my husband. What’s really worth it?”

In 2023, Biles married NFL star Jonathan Owens and the pair got married a few months before Biles returned to the sport. She has openly spoken about wanting to start a family going forward.
To-date, Biles has taken home 11 Olympic medals, including seven gold. She’s also won 30 World Championship medals, including 23 golds. In Paris this past year, she made a dramatic comeback, adding four medals to her career total including team, all-around, and vault golds and floor silver.
At this point, Biles has not publicly confirmed — nor denied — if she’ll be participating in the next summer olympics. The 2028 Summer Olympics are slated to begin on Friday, July 14, 2028 and run until Sunday, July 20, 2028. This will mark Los Angeles’ third time hosting the event, featuring an estimated budget of $7 billion.
