If alt-rock quartet Kings of Leon is any indicator, the family that plays together stays together. The three Followill brothers and their cousin have outlined a 32-date tour of the United States that spans four months with only a couple brief lulls in the schedule.
The tour’s brief four-date opening run will provide just a taste of what’s to come later in the summer. The jaunt begins June 5 at the Borgata Event Center in Atlantic City, NJ, and concludes with a headline performance at this year’s Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival on June 11 in Manchester, TN.
The next batch of U.S. performances starts up July 9 at Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre in Chula Vista, CA, and continues through August 7 at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, VA. The final round of concerts runs from September 3 at Verizon Wireless Music Center in Noblesville, IN, and ends September 23 at Superpages.com Center in Dallas, TX.
Ticket sales open in a few select markets on March 19 with wider onsales beginning March 20. Complete onsale information is listed on Kings of Leon’s official Web site.
Most of the event dates currently listed on Ticketmaster.com have tickets in the $30 to $50 range. But a July 26 event at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, OH, currently features the lowest and highest prices with face values listed from $20 to $69.50.
Kings of Leon dominated the national and international tour circuit through the latter part of 2008 and early 2009. That year-long period saw the rock group graduate from indie to mainstream as its concerts upgraded from medium-sized theaters during a fall 2008 tour to major arena markets in spring and summer 2009.
“We are stoked to get back on the road,” Nathan Followill said in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. “We’ve had a little break and are starting to get that itch. It will be cool to see if we can sneak in some new shit to see if the kids dig it. Late April the next musical adventure begins.”
The alt-rock quartet is still touring behind the 2008 album that catapulted them to fame. “Only by the Night” was the fourth studio album for Kings of Leon, but it was also the first of their efforts to land within the Top 10 of the Billboard 200, reaching a surprise peak of No. 4.
