The Clockwork Angels tour from Rush jumps into Top Events Rankings
After tickets to their recently announced North American tour went on sale last week, rock legends Rush catapulted into the TicketNews' Top Events Rankings, finishing the week at No. 6.
The Clockwork Angels tour will be in support of the bands upcoming 20th studio album of the same name. The album will feature music from the bands first new collection of material in more than five years. The tour will kick-off September 7 in Manchester, New Hampshire at the Verizon Wireless Arena and will end in Houston, Texas at the Toyota Center on December 2. The tour will also feature several Canadian stops along the way.
Upstaging Rush in the rankings was One Direction, who continued their reign as the top event for another week. The group is enjoying their fourth consecutive week at No. 1 with tickets on sale simultaneously for the bands upcoming 2012 and 2013 North American tours. The band recently added nine additional dates to its 2012 tour including stops in Louisville, KY, Philadelphia, PA, East Rutherford, NJ, Houston, TX, Dallas, TX and San Jose, CA. Secondary shows were added in Hershey, PA, Chicago, IL, and Las Vegas NV.
With the NBA Playoffs now in full swing, the Miami Heat and the New York Knicks held strong positions in the Top Sports Events listings this week. The Knicks grabbed the No. 4 spot while Heat fans drove their team into the No. 5 position. The two teams are currently facing each other in the first round with the Heat holding a two games to none lead. The series now shifts to Madison Square Garden in New York.
Even though ever present Broadway favorites such as "Wicked," "The Book of Mormon," and "Jersey Boys," each grabbed a spot in the top combined event rankings this week, other Broadway plays may see an increase ticket sales over the next several weeks with the 2012 Tony Award nominations being announced this week.
TicketNews Exclusive Rankings and Power Scores are based on ticket sales from the TicketNetwork Exchange™. Two factors are used to calculate a power score: total ticket sales from the given event and total ticket sales within the category. Since the sum of all events' power scores equals 100 in any given category, an individual event's Power Score represents its category-specific significance. Top Event Power Scores should only be used to compare events within a particular category, and not across categories.
