Formed in 1988 out of Omaha, Nebraska, 311 is an American rock band that covers a variety of musical genres such as alternative rock, hip hop, ska, reggae, and funk. Their first major record was released in 1993 with single “Do You Right” that made Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart at #27. Their breakthrough biggest selling CD was “The Blue Album” that released in 1995, reaching platinum status in 1996 and eventually reaching triple-platinum status due largely to the success of its hit singles “Down” and “All Mixed Up.”
Since their breakthrough album, 311 has released eight albums such as “Transistor” (1997), “Soundsystem” (1999), “Evolver” (2003), and “Don’t Tread on Me” (2005). The band celebrates “their holiday” on March 11 every year by gathering together their most loyal fans in New Orleans and playing their own songs continuously throughout the event. Still popular today, 311 released their newest album “Uplifter” on June 2, 2009 and toured with The Expendables and Ziggy Marley in 2009.
