The Boston Celtics were formed in 1946, and are currently one of thirty teams that form the National Basketball Association. One thing separates the Celtics from the rest of the league though, as they boast the most championships in league history with 17. The franchise plays in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference, along with the New York Knicks, New Jersey Nets, Philadelphia 76ers and Toronto Raptors. Each of their home games are played at TD Banknorth Garden in Boston, which opened in 1995.
Of their 17 NBA Championships, their latest came in 2008 when they defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals. The series marked the return of a classic rivalry, and quickly sparked the interest of the fans of both squads. Ticket prices skyrocketed to huge levels on the secondary market, as fans proved willing to spend thousands to see the historic match-up. If these two meet again in the Finals, ticket prices will once again be huge. As of 2008, the Celtics and Lakers have met 11 times in the NBA Finals with the Celtics winning nine of the series.
