Paul McCartney tickets selling slowly for August show at FedEx Field
His current stadium tour may have sold out in a lot of venues this summer, but tickets to see ex-Beatle Paul McCartney at FedEx Field in the Washington, DC area is not faring quite as well. Several premium tickets for the show are still available, and in fact, blocks of seats were apparently withheld and placed on the market recently when tickets were not moving, calling into question issues of transparency in the primary market.
When tickets to the August 1 show first went on sale about a month ago, prices for several premium sections were selling for a face value of $250 each. The sections, the first set of seats that are not on the field, included 120, 121, 122 and 123, and the corresponding seats directly across on the other side of the stadium.
Those tickets were in the first 15 rows of the section. But, due to slow sales, the seats in the next 13 rows, which were not originally available, are now selling for $125 a piece, giving the appearance that the tour's promoter Live Nation held those tickets back to gauge the market. Had the $250 seats sold well, the seats above likely would have been placed on the market at the same price.
In addition, dozens of those tickets are turning up on StubHub for roughly the same price, though those seats were not originally available. Similar seats are not currently listed on other exchanges, such as TicketsNow and TicketNetwork, parent company of TicketNews.
Where those tickets for higher rows in those premium sections came from is a mystery; broker or seller information on StubHub is not disclosed.
Neither McCartney's New York-based media relations representatives at PFA Entertainment Media & Marketing, nor Live Nation returned messages seeking comment.
Separately, on Tickets.com, which partners with StubHub for the resale of MLB tickets, McCartney fans are greeted with a large ad for tickets being available on StubHub, reminiscent of trouble Ticketmaster found itself in with its TicketsNow subsidiary (See screen shot below).
In this case, fans are given the opportunity to click on StubHub tickets, and a disclaimer ("Additional tickets may be available through StubHub, our secondary market partner") is at the top of the ad.

As a Redskins fan....and a HUGE Beatle & Macca fan.....I was QUITE disappointed to find my $60 seat actually cost me $110!!!!! Shame on you Dan S. NO WONDER it's not sold out. Do you read the papers or just sit up there waiting to spend my hard earned money on some no name washed up loser so we can have another .500 season? This will be my 9th (and assuming last) Macca show and to feel like I'm getting raped for a ticket makes my gut turn. I can assure you I will ALWAYS be a Macca & Redskins fan but this will be the LAST time I EVER set foot in HIS stadium. HDTV rules now. I just saw Macca at Citifield and I can assure the fans they will get more than there moneys worth at FedX so, if you can scrape together the OUTRAGOUS DOUGH to go, then GO and have a ball! It should be noted that I have never seen a 67 year old person ROCK like he can (and I do mean rock). This looks like it may be the only time I've ever seen him and it wasn't sold out....how dissapointing.......think of the party we could have all had! Well, everyone have fun and will see you on Saturday!
I don't know what the issue is with the McCartney tickets in Washington. The only visible empty seats at the CitiField show I was at were in the obstructed view sections. I have seen at least one show of each of McCartney's US tours and this was the best yet. McCartney looks and sounds better than he has in years. Obviously getting rid of that nutcase has been good for him. The New York audience was very enthusiastic. This show is not to be missed.
The slow ticket sales in Washington make me very sad because it seems unlikely that McCartney will ever return here. As for the ticket selling system - it is completely corrupt and the people who run the mega-ticket salse company should be jailed. I resent the fact that the tickets I bought when they went on sale are far to the back of seats that are somehow now available in the front center sections.
Did those of you who are complaining about $250 McCartney tickets complain about the $650 tickets for the Rolling Stones?
McCartney's promoters DID NOT DO THEIR HOMEWORK. The last 3 THREE times JP was in Wash, DC, he sold out EVERY SEAT, YOU NIMRODS !! 20-Something Bands are non-talented; isn't that really painful and difficult to admit and bad for the young kids. Cathy Steinhart
Two big differences between TM's shadiness and what you see in this screenshot:
1) Tickets.com isn't the primary seller of the tickets that are listed on StubHub. Top of the page = Tulsa, and Tickets.com is the primary seller. Bottom of the page = StubHub, for venues that Tickets.com doesn't handle. Plus, it's pretty darn clear where you are buying them from (which was the point of the class action against TM and their shenanigans)
2) Most importantly, Tickets.com and StubHub are not the same company. Ticketmaster and TicketsNow... are.
Live Nation should have their head examined for booking this washed up Beatle at a venue 6 times too big for his show. Live Nation should also start thinking about fan experience. There is nothing worse than watching a single performer at a football stadium in the middle of the summer with the humidity at 98% and the temperature nearing 100 degrees. Live Nation should stop worrying about the bottom line and start thinking about the fan experience. Back in the day, when I saw him at Verizon, I spent the entire show literally 20 feet from the man, and standing there I met my future wife then, currently still my wife.
I bet if Paul ever plays at Verizon center again even Don Vaccoaro would go.
Paul McCartney's certainly not a "washed up Beatle" in the NY area. He was absolutely amazing when I saw him last Friday. 3 sold out concerts at the new Citi Field of which I attended the first, equals 120 thousand in attendace (in rain for two of those concerts.) If it hadn't been for Paul, you wouldn't've met your wife. So show a little nostaligic gratitude for his connecting at least one fake fan to another in wedlock. I don't understand folks who attend concerts of artists they don't value. As you say, it's expensive enough and uncomfortable enough. No realist expects a bottom-line oriented corporation like Live Nation to care about "the fan experience." The fan experience is created by the individual fan--regardless of venue or price. One should value the artist to undergo the heat and humidity elements. If you think you're superior to a Beatle, then dont buy the ticket. As far as ticket prices and the whole ticketing system goes, it's been sucking for decades. No new words of enlightenment. Again, if you don't like the artist, don't go. He won't exactly miss you.
This is a wonderful wake-up call to Paul McCartney, Inc. and so many other legends in the music world. The face value of the ticket price is TOO HIGH !!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have supported Paul through numerous "unplayable" solo albums with a few rare "Hit out of the ball park" songs plus, He plays the same old tired sets of songs rarely venturing out of the numerous choices of songs from his catalogue.
SURPRISE us Paul and change-up the set list !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, this must be the same Philip who used to troll McCartney's official message board with constant bashing and negatively. Nice to see you in a different forum, man! Just wanted to let you know that the Macca message boards have been a much more pleasant place without you.
This is reply to "Ticket to See Paul" who comments about the same old tired SETLIST. Paul plays 36 songs this time around and the last time around. These are the 18 songs he did in 2005, that he is NOT doing this time around: "Magical Mystery Tour", 'I'll Get You', "Till There Was You", "Fine Line", "Maybe I'm Amazed", "In Spite Of All The Danger", "I Will", "Jenny Wren", "For No One", "Fixing A Hole", "English Tea", "I Will "Follow The Sun", "Follow Me", Too Many People", "She Came In Thru The Bathroom Window", Please Please Me", Good Day Sunshine", and "Penny Lane". That's HALF of the set, that's an enormous amount of changes. Always remember to never let the facts get in the way of your opinions.
Partly that's due to FedEx Field, a football stadium. It's way out in the Eastern part of the metro area, not accessible by metro/subway. Traffic is notorious going in and out of there. If he played downtown at the Verizon Center he would sell out.
i think ticketsales are slow because there has been a ton sold in the Eastern seaboard(Boston,NY,Halifax) and the market was flooded. Dallas and Tulsa are sold out, quite quickly actually
I have seen Paul twice in Dallas and the setlist changed by near 50%. If he plays the setlist from DC, it will be almost half of what he did in 05. I got on TM at 10AM and got four seats quickly, then got back on get two more seats at 10.08 and the 70,000 tickets were gone. I went to the Stadium to see if it was a computer glitch and the attendent said it was unbelievable how fast he soldout(8 minutes). Can't wait for the Aug.19th show. As to DC not selling out, maybe the demographics that is interested in Rock and Roll is not as strong as other parts of the country.
well, dallas is no where near sold out. i don't know where you got that information. i check back often about ticket sales because-
i hate when i pay a premium for a show (we paid almost $200.00 w/fees) and promoters pull attendees down from the rafters to make the audience seem "full". i don't no anyone else going to or even talking about the show here?!?!
i know he will be worth it and don't understand why he's not selling better...
We need to file another class lawsuit on this one, but this time on tickets.com.
