Madonna ticket sales help arenas climb up venues rankings
With the help of the latest tour from Madonna along with Super Bowl XLVI being over, indoor sports and concert arenas took over the top spots in TicketNews' exclusive venues rankings for the week ending Sunday, February 12.
Madison Square Garden (MSG) returned to the No. 1 spot after four weeks out. Although Madonna won't be visiting MSG, it was the arenas sports teams, the New York Knicks and New York Rangers, that contributed to its strong performance. In addition, MSG is hosting the sold-out Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show this week.
The venue also enjoys a number of top audience draws on the concert scene. David Lee Roth and Van Halen play two dates later this month, and Bruce Springsteen takes the stage in April.
The Madonna effect is in play in a number of the remaining entries this week, however, with help from strong NBA sales. Boston's TD Garden, in at No. 2, hosts the pop icon in September. Of course, the Garden is also home to the top-selling Boston Celtics and Bruins.
In at No. 4, Los Angeles' Staples Center will see Madonna perform this October. The venue also benefits from sales for the Clippers and Lakers of the NBA and the Kings from the NHL.
Other arenas that benefitted from a visit from Madonna as well as NBA and NHL games included Wells Fargo Center in at No. 5, Washington's Verizon Center at No. 6, Toronto's Air Canada Centre at No. 7 and the Bulls' United Center at No. 8.
TicketNews Exclusive Rankings and Power Scores are based on ticket sales for venues from the TicketNetwork Exchange™. A Power Score illustrates a given venue's significance among all other venues listed in the Exchange. Two factors are used to calculate a power score: total ticket sales for a venue, and total ticket sales overall.
