Janet Jackson is an American pop singer, and the youngest sibling in the famous Jackson family, which also includes brother Michael Jackson. She has released a total of 10 albums, including her 1982 self-titled debut and most recent endeavor, 2008’s “Discipline.” Throughout her career, Jackson has tried to set herself apart from her famous brothers with her status as a sex symbol and frequent forays into acting. While she remains an iconic figure in American pop and R&B music, her status as a touring act has steadily declined since her heyday in the ’80s and early ’90s. Her most recent arena tour in 2008 and was not well received by critics, though it initially received media hype for being her first world tour in about seven years. The entire tour was plagued slow ticket sales and the end of the tour was marred by a serious of cancellations due to illness that many in the press interpreted as a reaction on Jackson’s part to disappointing sales in an increasing number of North American markets.
